Tell me a little bit about what you found. We all know about the trailblazing Tuskegee Airmen, but your research revealed service on a much broader level. Matthew Delmont, welcome to the "NewsHour." And thanks for joining us. I recently sat down with the author, Matthew Delmont, history professor at Dartmouth College, to learn more. No longer, thanks to the book "Half American: The Epic Story of African Americans Fighting World War II at Home and Abroad," which gives a detailed look at the dual battle Black service members waged, fighting fascism overseas and racism back home. Stories of American military service and heroism in World War II have been immortalized in books and movies for decades.
